Can You Extend a Garden Office After It’s Built?

This is a fascinating question, isn’t it? Many folks out there dream of having a larger garden office or perhaps a unique “L”-shaped structure, but they’re not keen on constructing it all at once. They want options that can be added later, and that goes not just for garden rooms but for decking and other garden architectural elements. Let’s focus first on extending a garden office to add another room.

With so many years of experience under our belt, we’re well aware of the potential for extending your garden office. We can prepare the groundwork, quite literally, to make it possible and straightforward.

In preparing for future extensions, we modify the timber frame construction in a way that matches standard timber frame construction practices. This allows for easier connections when adding new sections. By having access to the frame through the removal of cladding and plasterboard, we create a seamless and tight connection between existing and new sections. Of course, there are several other factors to consider. For instance, if your garden office sits on a concrete slab, it might be essential to shape the concrete in full future form. Yet, you might opt to keep the concrete slab visible for a while, covering it temporarily—perhaps with decking, for instance.

Speaking of decking or any other garden architecture attached to the garden office, it follows a similar pattern. Depending on what you’re planning to add, it’s beneficial to inform the person designing your garden office about potential future expansions. This approach works not only for garden rooms but for your entire garden. If you picture a splendid garden but prefer not to spend all your resources at once, it’s entirely practical to handle it in steps.

All it takes is a conversation with designers and joiners who can plan the necessary alterations to make such future expansions practical. It’s a process that opens the door to step-by-step development, allowing you to craft your dream garden and expand your garden office according to your pace and preferences.

So whether you have an existing garden room or garden office you’re keen to extend or at the very begining of your journey, planning your garden room project from the begining, we’re here to help. Give us a call or drop us an email if you would like to discuss, we’ll be more than happy to help.
